Christmas for Coptics: 7 January
The Coptic Church celebrates Christmas on 7 January and just as celebrations in the West, they have colourful decorations throughout the Coptic quarter of Cairo during December and January.
February:
Egyptian Marathon
: 13 February
Attracting nearly 2000 long-distance runners from around 36 countries, the International Egyptian Marathon takes place annually in the city of Luxor, along the famous ancient monuments of the West Bank and through the sugar cane fields of the local farmers.
22nd Abu Simbel Festival:22 February
The temple of Abu Simbel provides one of the most spectacular sights in the world. Accomplished through the combined use of natural phenomena and ingenious human effort this temple is angled in such a way that it’s inner sanctum lights up in honour of Ramses II’s ascension to the throne and again on his birthday. Both events fall on the 22nd day of October and February respectively.
El Gouna Red Sea Run: February
The annual El Gouna Red Sea Run takes place in February and consists of 10km and 5km runs and a 3km walk. The winner in each category is awarded a medal and trophy, while all participants receive a souvenir medal and a goodie bag.

Mohammed’s Birthday: 9 March
The birthday of the prophet is celebrated with parades and decorations in villages, towns and cities across Egypt. Children receive a special sweet for the occasion and there is much revelry to commemorate this holy day.
April:
Sham El-Nassim Public Holiday: 28 April
The festival is celebrated by Egyptians and their families which today is a celebration of Spring. This festival has been around for over 4500 years and originally comes from the Pharonic celebration of the harvest season known as “shamo”.
International Pyramids Rally: 30 April – 9 May
In its third year, this event is organised by Siag & Emeco Travel for motorbikes, quads, cars and trucks with 49 participants for the 2008 line-up

Wonders of the World Peace Pilgramage: 30 June – 7 July
This annual event has been running for three years with daily schedules of yoga classes and sessions. Also available are lectures, daily workshops and health and beauty tips from internationally renowned members of the yoga community. This event travels from Giza through to Petra.

Art Festival in Ismailia: 24-31 August
A weeklong party is held in Ismailia as a celebration of colourful folkloric art from Africa, Europe and Asia. This festival is said to be the greatest art festival in the Arab world.
The Wafaa Al-Nil Festival:

This is an annual celebration held in Cairo which means “fidelity of the Nile” and it is a festival that remembers the ancient Egyptian veneration of the river Nile.
Moulid of Abu el-Haggag
This is an annual event held in Luxor, two weeks prior to the beginning of Ramadan, the Moulid of Abu el-Haggag celebrates Luxor's patron sheikh with a two-day street festival. Horse races, music, dance and tahtib, stick fights to the music of drums, are all part of the entertainment. The highlight of the festival is the parading of large boats in the city's crowded streets. The parade resemble the solar barque processions of the Pharaonic era and in Islamic symbolism boats represent the quest for spiritual enlightenment.

Abu Simbel Festival: 22 October
Once again, the temple lights up to celebrate Ramses II’s birthday and it is held in seven different languages.
Eid Al-Fitr (Festival of Fast-Breaking)
After fasting and abstinance over the course of Ramadan, it's no surprise that the Egyptians are ready to party when the Eid Al-Fitr (Festival of Fast-Breaking) comes around. Ramadan ends as a cannon tolls the arrival of dusk, and the streets suddenly fill with an explosion of revellers. New clothes are chosen and great quantities of food is purchased and turned into feasts for friends and family
